Ground squirrels have apparently decided that plastic storage containers are merely suggestions, not actual barriers, and they have been chewing their way through them. I now store the birds’ peanuts in a metal can instead.

My wife’s early birthday present to me. Carrying the weight of my existing camera gear gets me down before I even leave the house. So this is the first of many steps in my plan to lighten the load of my photography kit. Might even help to get me back to making photographs.

Spotted Towhee - A true icon of chaotic woodland energy, I’ll hear them in the bushes long before I see them. Classic ground forager and the reason I always “spill” a little seed in the yard when I fill the bird feeders. They are a welcome year-round resident in our neighborhood.

I woke up ready to be a “healthy breakfast” person. I had the yogurt. I had the berries. I had the motivation.

Then I remembered I also had sausage.

So yeah. I’m eating sausage and toast again. The yogurt will live to fight another day.
