Still wearing suits. Dad stuff, politics and history. Whenever possible #amwriting
Excellent episode. A useful reminder as well about how the Royal Navy used to be so big you routinely had small ships with frankly less than scary names doing their level best to mix it with much bigger ships with much fancier names!

Love this!
For no better reason than it's Friday, we're going to review wrestlers on how useful they'd be working in the archive.

First up: Triple H. He'd probably be great to have in the office, but that water spit thing is just going to raise our humidity levels so it's a no from us.

Same.
On the day after the referendum I remember saying to someone "the worst thing about this is we're going to leave and then we're going to spend the next 20 years trying to get back in and by then I'll be retirement age..."

It’s a mark of the corruption of our whole way of thinking about the world that trying to meet a planetary emergency is routinely described as “ideological”, while continuing to accelerate it is presented as “pragmatic” and “economic”.

How do I make it back to the mainland?
Politics island is outnumbered by the hostile mainland that oppose our way of life. A nuclear deterrent is necessary.

YOU BEARS!!! So happy Warwickshire have won the English #cricket County Championship!!! A great team effort!
Warwickshire savour the unexpected as squad effort pays dividends
Ninth title comes after fallow few seasons, and in wake of 2021 win that was overshadowed by Covid

As a Warwickshire fan, I'm still not accepting we are on the cusp of the County Championship, but the superb writing of @vitue.bsky.social at @cricinfo.com is helping calm my nerves...

The reoccurring theme of recent news is ‘company/individual commits a crime. There is no obvious consequence’.
Doesn’t feel ideal.

On the BBC News Katya Adler has just described Germany, where the far right AFD keep winning elections, as entering 'uncharted political territory'. Hmmm. Where Germany is concerned I think that territory is pretty well charted.

Why does the BBC have as one of its lead news stories this morning another Britain-hating interview with Jim 'the UK has been colonised by immigrants' Ratcliffe? What public interest is this serving?

Great thread, clearly a great speech.
Carney telling the European Parliament that what's needed is an alliance - his word, repeated - where nobody gets to tell the EU and Canada what to do.

Good *LORD*.

And met with a standing ovation.

Well, that's that for the previously-existing form of Atlanticism, then.

Great piece at @cricinfo.com on Test Match batting here. I mournfully agree...
Modern batting's attack-heavy approach may not be working. But that doesn't mean we'll return to the old virtues
We complain that runs are scarce and Tests short, but it's clear batters are not going to return to being tenacious and patient at the crease

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

History is about interrogating documents and questioning narratives; and law is about the rules that bind us and the rights that protect us.

Neither are STEM; both are essential.
