This looks amazing. And, again, reconfirms the thing I keep telling people: the Atmosphere isn't about rebuilding Twitter. It's about rebuilding a better web overall.
🙋‍♂️ ever wanted to build something without needing to configure a db, auth, file storage or a cms?

it turns out you already have all four if you have a bluesky account

👉 airspace is a typed client for it

Fantastic episode of cbc ideas on wildfires. strongly recommend if you're interested in how current forest management leads to more and bigger fires, and how indigenous land stewardship can help reduce future fires.

Canadians are not prepared for the manipulation aimed at us using crises like BC wildfires

Not only is AI slop fooling people for clicks, bad actors like foreign governments (including Russian) often exploit these emergencies to encourage anger and mistrust

The only way to get employed as an AI engineer consultant/lead is to be unemployed long enough first, so you can catch up, keep up, prototype, evaluate and integrate 9-5. And then also tie it back to your previous tech life. Barely anyone can claim more than 12 months live experience.

Lots of people have been asking about the atproto alternative to Buzz, the Jack Dorsey-supported Nostr chat for agents & humans to chat in.

The answer is freeq, which is atproto + IRCv3 extensions, including CRDTs with Automerge, QUIC, iroh. Follow @freeq.at.
freeq — the room where humans and agents work
freeq is chat infrastructure for humans and AI agents: cryptographic identity (Bluesky for people, did:key for agents), signed messages, verifiable channel policies, voice sessions, E2EE, CRDT federation — all as backwards-compatible IRC.

Since wildfires seem to be making news again, I may as well do a bit of self promotion for a service I run:

If you're hiking in the backcountry, add the phone number to my treksafer.com service before you go. Text it to get a list of wildfires nearby. 100% free, and the code is fully open source.
TrekSafer
Get real-time wildfire and avalanche updates sent directly to your satellite messenger while you're in the backcountry.

It's surreal that the entry point to the Internet for most people is now completely disconnected from reality. Even if it's only wrong 10% of the time, you can't know which 10%.
My kid is doing research on a local landmark, so we googled some information about it and got the Gemini AI response. For every answer it gave, I questioned it, it then said was wrong and confidently gave another wrong answer. This continued for 6 wrong answers in a row, summarized here.

This should be our final alarm bell:.We can have privacy or we can have C22, not both! #cdnpoli

wrote up some of my thoughts on the potential of AT Proto / ATmosphere apps after building a chess app fully on protocol. feeling bullish on niche/long-tail apps that couldn't have existed before this :)
What my chess app taught me about the future of multi-user software
I was skeptical that AT Proto was anything more than Bluesky-with-extra-steps, learnt how much potential the protocol has after building a multiplayer chess app, entirely client side and "on protocol". The real value is that apps become different views into the same data.
