Calling all bsky librarians! Help me find a book! I don't know the name of the book or the author. It was a book about mythical/magical creatures, not a storybook more like an encyclopedia. It is NOT the colorful book series 'Encyclopedia of...' very important this book is entirely black and white.

social media gave me the best job i’ve ever had and some of my very best friends … but on balance, i’m still not sure it was worth it
The Internet was amazing up until roughly 2009. The rapidly accelerating decline began with Facebook
i especially love all the dopes saying “when the internet first went mainstream everyone hated it too” like it happened in the pioneer days so no one can dispute it, like mf’ers we were THERE

Dems should pass a Universal Basic Income bill of they have majorities.

If for no other reason than to watch their colleagues who’ve said nothing about POTUS’s bogus $5k check promise explain why UBI is bad.

Our government is using facial recognition technology to track us, including ICE and CBP who have used it to target immigrants and people of color.

We need a moratorium on our government’s use of this technology.

it’s a basic point but any company that believes it has a divine right to steal cannot be allowed to exist

letting tech companies fuck over creators because they promise magical ai is a devils deal that leads to your data harvested and sold in return for sycophantic chatbots they will let you rent

The things AI can be sort of useful for are also things that don’t require the level of scaling (and therefore environmental damage) we are seeing and don’t require theft (because they need bespoke data sets that are carefully created and curated). So their arguments don’t even support the premise.

With this monopolized media empire comes not just size but unprecedented power.

The power to throw workers under the bus.

The power to price-gouge because consumers have few alternatives.

The power to decide which stories get told, but more importantly, which stories DON'T get told.

It still stole from thousands of artists. It’s still being developed by the worst people.
