TSA says it is removing chairs at document checks in airports, requiring staff to stand for their shift.

TSA explained the reason as twofold: to ensure its employees meet its fitness standards and to create an amiable environment for travelers.

Guys, they're fixing it. The bureaucrats in charge just emailed me thanking me for bringing the issue to their attention and laying out their plan
I have been asked to speak at a schoolboard meeting about how our district has functionally removed books from middle school English. So if the clip of my impassioned speech ends up going viral, everyone be cool

Had a bunch of kids over tonight and it was easier and less messy than just a normal night. I don't understand the science behind this, but it was nice

Then it should be used very specifically for specific jobs, with strict guardrails, and not propping up our entire economy, and being forced into everything.

The same way I don’t need to know how to use, say, software for dental offices, or a forklift, most people don’t need AI.
I think AI for research and development is a good thing. As a developer it has sped me up probably 8-10 times what I was doing before. However, I don't like it for the arts and humanities, I don't like the products that propose it as a friend or assistant, and I don't like it replacing real people.

I keep checking back in, and every time it still has all the same faults as before. I feel like I'm Charlie Brown with the football every time i fool myself into thinking maybe I'd been an unfair hater and I oughtta give AI another chance
feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does
I really wasn’t trying to start a fight with Prof. Bender but now that she has created a long thread subtweeting me and her disciples are all yelling at me, let me just say that this is the crux right here. She seems to respond as though I am describing something a priori impossible.

The kids have piano after school on Fridays, and I've been using the time waiting for them at the teacher's house to do grading. That way I get to start my weekend feeling accomplished and virtuous

Apparently there was a group chat among some of my students started by a kid who kicked it off with this peppy little line: "tomorrow we're jumping ms posts"

Bit I've been doing lately: giving people helpful suggestions for how to remember things but they'd only make sense to me. Example: "the due date is 10/5, which you'll be able to remember because it's my dad's birthday"

My students are doing a competition, and I told them the winning team will get a Fancy Day, and i refused to tell them what that means. But I'll tell you. I'm gonna set up a tea party with real dishes and food and table cloth and stuff in the middle of class and the winning team gets to sit

Last year not a single refugee fleeing religious persecution was admitted to the US.
When Matthew Soerens of World Relief tells Christians the Trump administration has banned persecuted Christians, many don't believe him. We talked about why.

Listen to the whole conversation:

I don't understand how anyone manages. There's so much to do and remember all the time. It seems impossible, yet everyone else seems to be pulling it off.

the kids now chant too
This year, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, I'm beginning class with a Poem of the Week. That means I just read a poem aloud and then chant "Po-e-try! Po-e-try! Woohoo!" And then we move on.
