I consider Transfiguration to be a type of southern gothic in at least the sense it contains enough allusion to southern pop culture oddities to assume it's set in the American south, somewhere

Something I was very intentional about when writing Transfiguration that I don't know if any readers picked up on, or maybe everyone did and just thought it was weird, is that at no point in any of the like six sex scenes I crammed into 50 pages does another character touch Magnolia's penis.

Unfortunately I had to leave in the terrible joke where the characters weigh the artistic merits of Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) because it was a necessary crystallization of several of the story's core themes
