March of 2005, I had opened a show for Robyn Hitchcock at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA. After, a group of us found our way to a nearby open mic. Left to right: Lloyd Cole, Robyn Hitchcock, Chris Collingwood, Me, and Brian Marchese. With Hitchcock at the helm...

I walked up to my blue neighborhood mailbox this morning and dropped in a pile of envelopes. Each had a copy of the new Gentle Hen album, Wink. Pre-orders for CDs. Now they're out there traveling in different directions across the country. It feels really nice to continue this musical tradition.

Yesterday at the start of a 3 hour car ride, we stumbled upon a show on XM’s Classic Rewind channel: Top 40 cassette albums that turn 40 this year. So a best of 1986 in a way. Crazy how REM Fall on Me was the same year as Tesla’s Modern Day Cowboy.

I was a pretty conventional mid 70’s guy music guy- LZ, the Stones, Rush etc. then one night in 1978, CHUM-FM did a simulcast of some guy name Elvis Costello and 20 seconds into Mystery Dance, my musical life had changed. It was like being struck by lightning.

I think it'd be really nice to read about people's first time hearing a song. A nice long thread of stories. But I don't know how to get the thread to take off. Maybe if you re-post with your story? Anyway, I'll start with my memories of hearing Buckets of Rain by Bob Dylan for the very first time..
