i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

We have just launched a parliamentary petition calling for mandatory AI transparency in the public sector.

If AI is going to be used in the delivery of public services, it must be AI that is worthy of our trust.

Good news, the answer is(was?) no.

Every few years similar charts make the rounds. Usually to blame smartphones for declines, but more recently LLMs.

What really happened is this:

High school completion rates in OECD countries are going up. This pulls PISA scores down. It's a one-time shift.
one for the "cognitive deskilling" files (from The Economist's FB account).

surprised both by the pace of the decline and that math and reading scores seem to move more closely together than math and science scores, though I'm not at all familiar with this test and what it asks students to do

Compensation for time & effort spent on unsuccessful bids? Nice!

Gosh, *imagine* if arts funding worked this way, or science and research, or indeed any gig whatsoever? "So sorry you didn't get the role, but here's a bunch of cash for making it this far. Best wishes for your work going forward!✨🥰 "
"[The] ‘bid costs’ eligible for reimbursement in this context means the reasonable, actual and verifiable third-party external costs directly related to preparing specific elements of the bidder’s proposal."
Tens of millions set aside to pay unsuccessful infrastructure project bidders
An undisclosed amount - capped at 2% of the project’s full cost - is offered to unsuccessful bidders who make it to the “request for proposal” stage.

National MPs that robbed 180,000 women of pay equity, cut funding to SA prevention and survivor organisations and made ACC more difficult for abuse survivors to access. They’re supporting their MP here but imo I think they’d be singing a different tune if it was a Green MP being attacked. #nzpol

Nash said what they're all thinking out loud. That was his mistake. Misogyny is instead an acceptable practice, eg dumping pay equity claims to make budget. Or supporting an anti trans Bill to select committee. Or refusing to go forward w consent law reform & using it as an election "promise" #nzpol
