A quintessential view of Southern California. We dropped someone off at LAX and stopped at the In-N-Out Burger right at the edge of the north runway. It's a perfect place to photograph planes landing, they are only a couple of hundred feet off the ground. It's Instabae, as they say in Japanese, a place perfectly designed for likes on Instagram; and there were plenty of visiting hipsters posing for their followers. I brightened the photo and erased some light poles. But other than that, this is how it was, on a very warm and sunny day. 南カリフォルニアを象徴するような光景だ。 知人をLAXで降ろした後、北滑走路のすぐ端にある「イン・アンド・アウト・バーガー」に立ち寄った。着陸する飛行機を撮るには絶好の場所で、機体は地上わずか数十メートルの高さを飛んでいく。いわゆる「インスタ映え」スポットで、インスタグラムの「いいね！」を稼ぐのにうってつけの場所だ。実際、フォロワーに向けてポーズを決めるヒップスターたちが大勢訪れていた。 写真は明るく補正し、街灯のポールを何本か消した。それ以外はありのままで、とても暑くて晴れた日だった。

A rare summer shower. It was still raining when I arrived at the Redondo Beach Pier to take this photo. Unusual conditions sometimes yield spectacular shows in the sky. 赤龍 珍しい夏のにわか雨だ。この写真を撮るためにレドンド・ビーチ・ピアに到着した時も、まだ雨が降っていた。こうした珍しい気象条件が、時に空に壮観な光景を生み出すことがある。

The past few weeks I've been scanning my parents’ Kodachrome slides, and have unearthed many wonderful photos of me and my family. This one is of me - age 12 - in front of the Unisphere at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. It was a different world 60 years ago. The 1964 World's Fair was bristling with optimism about technology and the future. Donald Fagen wrote a song about the promise of those times. The almost complete lunar eclipse in Southern California. With the moon so dim, I can turn up the brightness to show more of the sky, stars, planes and clouds. 月食 南カリフォルニアで見られた、ほぼ完全な月食だ。月がかなり暗いため、明るさを上げて、空や星、飛行機、雲をもっとよく見えるようにした。
