I spent nearly two years talking to former players & fans of the WNBA’s Miami Sol without knowing if the story would find a home. Here it is at @defector.com, about what modern league expansion can learn from the team’s all-too-brief existence.
The Miami Sol's Needless Demise Provided A Familiar Lesson | Defector
For a brief period two decades ago, Miami was an amazing place to be a fan of women’s professional basketball. The team had a roster full of promise and reached the playoffs in their second season of ...

The paid blue check thing combined with AI making it easier and cheaper than ever to spread misinformation that looks legit makes it a pretty useless app for following news even if you somehow manage to filter the right-wing propaganda out of your algorithm, which is almost impossible to do
I left Twitter shortly after Elon took over, and it honestly wasn't political in the moment either. Allowing people to purchase blue check marks and forcing various silicon valley people into my feed was enough. But today if I hadn't left before I would be leaving, due to politics

I think the commissioner saying twice on the record that he would consider it a "failure" if the team moves is a good thing to have out there.
Any comments on silvers response to the blazers relocation question

Megan DiLeo and Frieda Bühner were both back at practice today but not full participants. Carla Leite gets into town today. The hope is all three are ready to go Thursday against Phoenix.

The Fire have added Charisma Osborne on a developmental contract. They've had their second DP spot open since converting Jordan Harrison last month. Osborne last played in the WNBA in 2024, appearing in two games for Phoenix.

Iyana Martín's breakout in the FIBA World Cup has Alex Sarama already thinking about how he'll solve the "unique challenge" of playing her and Carla Leite together next season.

The Blazers have announced the previously reported hires of Jay Triano and Mike Williams as assistant coaches. Leron Black, who started as a Remix assistant coach in 2023 before getting promoted to Blazers player development coach last year, has been promoted to assistant coach.

Posts like this are why I try to avoid talking about trade or free agency stuff on pods. Something can be very obviously opinion and not reporting but these accounts are shameless and will clip anything that will get engagement and face no consequences for misrepresenting stuff.

NEW: It's been a while since I've published a good ol' fashioned rant. Turns out I had a lot to say about events that have transpired over the last few days. And also, there's always a new reason to take a dig at Christine Brennan.

This Jeff Passan update on MLB expansion cities has some good stuff on Tom Dundon's long-running effort to bring a baseball team to Raleigh. Worth keeping an eye on, for a few different reasons.

Iyana and Carla playing together next year is going to be a little tough defensively but insanely fun offensively.

I can confirm what's been reported by a few Korean outlets, that Hyun-jung Lee is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 deal with the Blazers to be in training camp and then likely play for the Remix this season. Lee was on the Blazers' Summer League team in 2024.

Very well-done and well-researched video with a lot of background on Tom Dundon's path to owning the Blazers, that I sat for an interview for a month ago. Worth checking out now that it's out buff.ly/GPqfZxx
The NBA's newest owner might just ruin the league
Tom Dundon purchased the Portland Trail Blazers at a valuation of $4.25 billion dollars. What he's done next may well challenge the NBA's status quo - and not necessarily in a good way. Find out how,…

One thing this piece gets at is the new ownership group thinking the Blazers are much more of a "distressed asset" in need of "saving" than they actually are. The franchise isn't in close to as bad of shape as the Hurricanes were when Dundon bought them. defector.com/tom-dundon-i...
