You may notice lingering smoke overnight, Sept. 16, and into the early morning in southern Hillsborough from a debris fire earlier today at a construction site on Waterstone Drive. Orange Rural firefighters ensured the fire was contained and are monitoring the debris pile overnight. buff.ly/ApvrphZ

Motorists should expect heavier-than-usual traffic in the downtown area this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19, due to the Hog Day festival in and around River Park.

The Hillsborough Police Department is seeking candy donations for its annual trunk or treat. The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 behind the police station. Candy donations may be dropped off on weekdays or shipped to the police station.

Town of Hillsborough offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, to observe Labor Day.

Residents whose garbage and yard waste are normally picked up on Mondays will receive service on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
