A (mostly) chronological list of my published short stories and poetry.
1. 'Self-checkout'. Short story, part of a horror anthology. A bleak story about a person stepping in to help, even at great risk to themselves.

So apropos of nothing in particular, let’s talk about media tie-in novel pay vs. original work pay, shall we?
Let’s say you write a novel. It’s set in your own world, your own characters, and titled The Original. You get a book deal! Look at you go!

Translating poetry of mine from English to Dutch. It's always a struggle when one language has multiple words for a thing where the other has only one.
'bait' and 'lure' both translate to (lok)aas in Dutch. So I ended up just scrapping a whole sentence 😅

Came up with a few action scenes for a short story. Now it's finally starting to come together.
Also moved the story from *generic Dutch city* to my own hometown. First time I'm writing a story situated in it.
Finally confident I'll make the deadline in October. 😮💨

Thinking of visiting Worldcon in Montreal next year. And my partner would like to go to the Toronto Film Festival which is right after that.
Mmm, a plan is starting to take form 😏

38 submissions so far this year, and I just got my 5th acceptance! *does happy dance*
Keeping a tight lid on what it is for now: will be able to tell more in a month or so.
Meanwhile writing this month has been tough: stuff is catching up with me. Sigh😢

The baker, uninspired, no longer sees the writhing bread-muse in the flour. No imps in the sugar, nor hieroglyphic isles in the salt

Got quite a few scifi books and beers for my birthday (not all of them pictured here).
I got two books in German and two in French, alongside some in Dutch and English. Let's see how reading them goes 😅

Cleaned the house today and moved my TBRs to a new spot, from which they can stare at me and judge.

Druk bezig met mijn verhaal voor de Harland Prijs. Ik heb drie ideeën weggegooid en heb eindelijk iets waar ik blij mee ben. Nu maar hopen dat ik het op tijd afkrijg.
After three scrapped ideas I am finally happy at work on a short story for the Harland Award. Let's hope I can finish it in time!

sorry, but torturing the omelas kid is just a smart move, polling-wise. i personally wish there wasn't a kid in the omelas hole--of course i do!--but let's not get distracted by purity tests, here.

I have stolen
the work
that you spent
years creating
and which
you were probably
hoping
would pay your bills
But online sharing doesn't count
It's actually a compliment
So fuck you
BTW, I'm a fan
