Not a fan of Swisher, who is very smug and glib. But virtually every incumbent party worldwide lost during this period. So the machinations of people like her were very unlikely to be pivotal. Campaign operatives like to think everything is about their activities and it really isn't.

one thing that might be attractive if you wanted to avoid triaging Texas is to figure out how to make some of the Texas money work nationally, like by spending it on national football broadcasts ads?

trying that thought on for size
yeah, the reason republicans are just not going to budge from texas is the reason why armies try not to abandon their capitals. it isn’t necessarily a strategic defeat to lose the seat of power, but it is a profound blow to morale.
They can't let go of Texas. It's completely demoralizing.

Not at all efficient. Debatable during a presidential election, but worse when a third of the states don’t even have senate elections.

Besides, nationalizing the election is the last thing Repubs should be doing.

I love James Talarico’s simple statement in response to groveling Angela Paxton’s deplorable lowlife political ad. She’s a insult to smart, honest and hardworking American women. She’s earned her place in hell.

Hard to think of anything less abstract and more materially consequential than being pregnant
Samuel Alito: We won't overturn Obergefell because it's engendered reliance interests.

Jan Crawford: Well, many people had organized their lives around Roe v. Wade.

Alito: No, they didn't. Women merely had an "abstract" interest in "ideas about the kind of society that they were going to live in."
The Alito Court: A rare interview with the influential Supreme Court justice
Justice Samuel Alito discussed his opinion in the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, the leaked draft and its aftermath, same-sex marriage rights and why he's not retiring yet.

I think Bouie overestimates the effects of the manosphere on elections & underestimates how many people are genuinely unhappy with the direction & pace of demographic/social change.

I'm sorry a MANTA RAY SKIN TABLE

Like all of the rest of this is superfluous AF, yes. But as someone who works with leather and knows what a single, SMALL ass stingray skin costs, PLUS just got to do a night snorkel with real, majestic manta rays, what the ACTUAL fuck

I've been saying this for years. And many of their children have already passed on. We are mostly now a couple or more generations removed from the people who were there for the defeat of fascism.
I often think about how the rise of the neo-fascist right corresponds to the declining numbers of WW2 vets around to slug them right in the face.
The loss of living memory of the Second World War is absolutely catastrophic

Well, the WW2 generation had its internal contradictions, as did America. Few of them would have grasped that Nazi law borrowed from Jim Crow and would have been angered by the argument. But they would have been quick to recognize the language and symbolism of current neo-fascism.

Remember, Harris campaign was good. The biggest problem by far was the SuperPAC, that never went hard negative against Trump, waited too long to get on the air, & was generally an eccentric experiment by David Shor & his ilk.

And one of the top people had no experience in campaigns: Kara Swisher
Woman who as late as 2022 thought Musk was great has thoughts.

Here are 2 big disqualifiers among journalists:

1. Thought after 2017 Trump might become a responsible & in any way “normal” president.

2. Didn’t see a decade ago that Elon Musk was a weirdo & possibly evil.

Not sure if the point of Angela Paxton’s video was to cause people to search Angela Paxton’s name only to find out that she helped facilitate Ken Paxton’s corruption for many years before ultimately filing to divorce him on “biblical grounds”, but that’s what happened.

If Ballot Measure 2 passes it will repeal:

1) open primaries - gone
2) ranked choice voting - gone
3) requirement to report campaign contributions over $2,000 - gone

Vote NO on Ballot Measure 2 #akelect
1️⃣ Alaska

One of most important states this fall, no doubt:
—Senate seat could flip, determine majority.
—Dems hope to flip governorship, too.
—An Indy is making a bid for US House.
—Measure to repeal ranked-choice voting (again).
—Bipartisan coalition seeks to keep legislature.
