Every year on 19 December, the famous Christmas lights at Mousehole in Cornwall are dimmed between 8 and 9pm, leaving just the Cross and Angels shining down across the village and out to sea.

Having so little faith in your own parenting and your adult offspring that you track their every move is fucking insane. And how must the son have felt, reading it in the paper today. Your mother is mental young man. It's not you, it's definitely her.

Any time I have a crisis about my parenting (my kids are 29 and 30 now), I'm going to remind myself that when they went to university, I believed in them and their ability to navigate their own life and enjoy their freedom and make good choices, because THAT'S WHAT THE PREVIOUS 18YRS HAD BEEN ABOUT

Case in point. Couldn't sleep last night and was thinking about the post from @stephenkb.bsky.social about the two men in the cinema. This clip of the poor Piddlington resident and Farage's response is horrific. And yet somehow *normal*
Just look at the glee on Nigel Farage’s face as he watches a Piddington resident cry about the overt racism she, her Caribbean heritage husband, and their two children have felt in the village during the referendum.
Time and again he’s showing us exactly who he is.

I agree with this, but quite honestly everything I post lately is dour. I miss the daft and hilarious from elsewhere, but I keep thinking if I hang on long enough, this place will cheer up.
unsure if it's a me problem, a you problem or a little bit of both but christ Bluesky is feeling dour these days, every time I open the app I have to ready myself for 75 Very Serious Debates About Serious Issues, whatever happened to getting jiggy with it, don't make me spend more time on Instagram
