the current hiring discourse is reminding me of the hard-won lesson that if someone is extremely technically skilled but an obstinate arrogant nightmare to work with, they will absolutely be a net negative to your project or kill it. you can train someone you work with but you cannot socialize them

Yes, I also got the email about Dj Cutman using genAI for his side projects. Spoke w/my peers about the matter, and since I've released tracks on GC, done collabs with Chris (which is why my name was brought up), plus my OWN community reaching out, here are my thoughts & what actions I've taken:

Komugiko2000's "Pop Quest" exhibition is now open in Tokyo.
As a fan of flipbooks and optical toys, I love these special "Flipbook craft" boxes created for the event.

This is shocking. She was everywhere when I was a kid. She was amazing in Kingdom Hearts, Heroes, Scream. Fuck. She was so young.

It's not surprising that people with no real understanding of the craft see AI as the easy answer to saving a few pennies. They also want to do away with production designers, cinematographers, you name it. It just shows that they don't understand how films, at any scale, are really made.

If I seem angrier, it's because I was hurt. If I seem louder, it's because I was hurt. If I seem less reasonable, it's because I was hurt. If I seem less patient, it's because I was hurt.

I'm still me beneath all that pain. I still want the best for people I love.

It just comes out different now.

IMPORTANT: For any artists/writers/etc etc, using Linktree to point people to their work, from 5 July, they'll be feeding all imagery you use on your landing page into DALL-E by OpenAI.

I deleted my account this morning.

I don't think folks younger than 30 know what the internet once legitimately promised to be (and I would argue briefly was): a boundary-less space of pretty much uncommodified information and communication.
A mix between community bulletin boards and university library stacks.
My 1999 self would weep at how totally broken the internet has become. AI slop, social media walled gardens that rot the brain, surveillance pricing and advertising, every single goddamn website has an endless cloudflare captcha loop before you get to read anything. Burn it all down.

"concept artists can experiment with AI to make their lives easi-"

wrong

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI
