so much less worried about "what if claude goes rogue and hacks an bioweapons lab" than i am about "what if claude tells a one-star something wildly incorrect and he believes it and starts a war"
Lot of issues here but one part that sticks out in light of the almost-attacked-a-Chinese-ship story today: people with very important jobs where lives are at stake have bought the hype and outsourced their whole brains to AI. We're going to see more and more of this.

Astro City, by @kurtbusiek.bsky.social, Brent Anderson, Alex Ross, et al, is one of my absolute favorite comics of all time, and I reread the whole series every couple of years. This bundle contains some of the best comics I've ever read, and is well worth any price you'd wish to pay.

Insane that Hasbro Customer Care doesn’t have access to Pulse exclusives for replacements for issues. My HAL doesn’t have a seat, but I can return it for a refund or get an “equivalent item”, not a HAL

I actually *can* sorta justify a second HAL, so I ordered another, but what a dumb situation.

Terrifying Lasers On the Tundra, Pt 1, Angola, Dec. 1990: Daina and Dragonsky aren't much listening to the mission briefing. They're supposed to grab a local MPLA militia leader who's been disloyal to the USSR. Nothing new. But they're more interested in their new CO, Capt. Krimov...

It’s me, I’m the guy who’s gonna grab this today just because of Blistik.
Out today - the epic conclusion! With a special remembrance from Tom Brevoort! And from the darkest depths of the ‘90s comes Blistik! Don’t miss it!

Right then. I *will* get on the bike when I get home today, crappy headspace be damned.

And I’m also not going to wait till the weekend to haul all the crap out to the garage that I need to. So there.

So, cat snuggles aside, I did start in on Rom yesterday and while it’s of its time, the initial concept of a space robot showing up and appearing to kill random people who are secretly evil aliens who have been disguised as humans for a generation or more is as great as ever.

Well, I *was* gonna eat lunch and start in on the Rom omnibuses, but Nigel has made the case for an alternative.

Sometimes I browse through heritage auctions and I find the occasional odd gem, but today I stumbled upon the mother-load: these ridiculous grocery store ads promoting the release of The Jungle Book, and each one has me absolutely reeling. Sharing them here so you too can share in my bewildered joy

This would be an excellent day to open up the windows if I could do so without risking unfortunate cat reactions.

Ah well. Maybe I’ll take advantage, clean the garage or something.

Just remembered one of my favourite facts: the Wikipedia article for the 2002 Vin Diesel movie xXx typically gets a million views or more per month, because so many people Google "XXX movie" and just click on the top result
