Last week, McClatchy Media laid off 17 of our members across the PNW.
We're asking for your help supporting the talented, hard-working journalists losing their jobs.
Every dollar makes a difference.

10 Idaho Statesman reporters — more than half the staff — were laid off Thursday by McClatchy Media, our hedge-fund-backed owner.

Sadly, many don’t have large savings to sustain them while looking for new positions. Please consider donating to help reporters cover their bills. Any amount helps!

They cut more than half of the reporting staff at Idaho's (previously) largest newspaper, including several of the best journalists in the industry. So if you're a hiring manager, scoop them up as fast as you can.
The Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild is shocked and disappointed by McClatchy’s decision to lay off 33% of its unionized workers at the Idaho Statesman, The News Tribune (Tacoma), Tri-City Herald, The Olympian and Bellingham Herald. This includes 10 journalists in Idaho, and seven across Washington

A huge thank you to all our supporters! We couldn’t have done this without our communities and those who care about the longevity of journalism.

Bad-faith bargaining is bad for business. After we went on strike, a major advertiser halted ad buys in solidarity. We are asking others to do the same until McClatchy Media comes to the table with a fair offer.

Idaho Statesman journalists went on a one-day strike Tuesday, alleging unfair labor practices and bad-faith bargaining from McClatchy Media, our corporate owner.

We have overwhelmingly voted to go on STRIKE as we fight for a fair contract with McClatchy Media and its five Pacific Northwest newspapers.

Our demands are simple: Protections against AI and wages that keep up with inflation.

This work isn’t possible without us. But McClatchy would rather spend millions on AI then invest in the humans who won 53 awards, including for chronicling the contentious aftermath of Charlie Kirk's killing. Donate to our strike fund for fair wages bit.ly/pnwnewsstrike
