We don’t allow corporations to come up with new nuclear weapons or varieties of cocaine or biological pathogens. We protect the public from certain kinds of innovation.

Many writers don't want their work labeled, in classic "don't put me in a box" fashion. Obviously critics and scholars and readers will discuss categories and labels, and that's great, but thinking too much about it all while writing fiction can cause some writers to freeze up.
