Trans rights are human rights! On Saturday 26 April Birmingham stood in solidarity with the trans community and trans+ voices were heard in the city. The protest was one of many happening that weekend as protesters took to the streets across the UK. The previous weekend saw people protesting up and down the country, including thousands that marched through London. The protests are in response to the recent High Court ruling that has emboldened people who want to attack trans+ rights. Protesters were joined by former Birmingham poet laureate Jasmine Gardosi who will recited a poem at the event. The Birmingham event attracted support and solidarity from numerous community groups and trade unions including: Brum Against Hate Birmingham Friends of the Earth (BFoE) UNISON LGBT+ Birmingham Pride Community Foundation Birmingham LGBT Trans Central Lichfield Pride Trans Pride Birmingham The Trans Tearoom Not Your Scapegoat Birmingham TUC UNISON Walsall General Branch Disabled People Against Cuts Unite Community Birmingham PCS Midlands University & College Union (UCU) UNISON Birmingham National Education Union (NEU) We Demand Change UNISON Black LGBT+

The Golden Lion originally stood in Deritend & had to be rebuilt between 1616 & 1644, after it was believed to have been damaged during a Royalist attack on Birmingham in the English Civil War… it was badly damaged in an arson attack carried out by suffragettes in 1912

An Open Letter to Leaders of the European Commission, European Council, and European Union (EU) Member States on the EU Methane Regulation Dear President von der Leyen, President Costa, and EU Member State Leaders: As your largest energy suppliers, we are committed to strengthening our economic and strategic partnerships and ensuring Europe’s energy security. We fully support your objectives of increasing EU economic competitiveness, prosperity, sustainability, and energy security through provision of reliable energy supplies for the European Union and its citizens. It is with these shared goals in mind that we write to urge the EU to take swift, necessary actions to clarify and to adopt targeted amendments to the EU Methane Regulation (EUMR), some of which have already been requested by several EU Member States, industry, and members of European Parliament. These amendments should also be preceded by the: (i) adoption of a stop-the-clock mechanism, to provide time to develop necessary methodologies and compliance pathways that work for all; (ii)grandfathering of new contracts signed while these additional legislative adjustments are underway; and (iii) removal of penalties for noncompliance during this transitional period.
