I would make it mandatory for call centres to provide an option to say "Look, I have already tried doing it online *and* in the app, and it's not working. I want this to be a phone call even less than you do so please shut up about how convenient it is to do it digitally".

A metaphor I will continue to flog is British politics is now little more than a customer complaints department for capitalism. On the rare occasions any of the complaints are sent upstairs to management, most of them go in the bin.
As I said early on about Keir Starmer: a British politician’s job is not to represent your interests to e.g. the private water company. His job is to come *to you*, look suitably biscuit-arsed, and then explain that sadly nothing can be done. And usually retire to a plush private sector gig.
