Listening to Zoe Ball talk on her and Jo Whiley's podcast about how it's been 30 years since she first presented Live & Kicking. Around the same time I was in the live audience, dressed as a giant peanut for a game ('Let's Go Nuts'). The Backstreet Boys also appeared, on their first visit to the UK.

Can anyone recommend a new series of books or new author for my Y5 daughter? So far she loves Lottie Brooks, Wings of Fire, Dork Diaries, Horrible Histories, Wimpy Kid series (but probably a bit easy for her now). Any thoughts?

Favourite summer holiday reading so far - Eric Puchner, Dream State (2025). Marriage plot, family saga and climate fiction combined, set in the lakes and mountains of Montana. A baggy, big-hearted American novel.

The government’s drive for ‘vocational’ education is accelerating the death of the humanities, at a time when the study of literature is more vital than ever.

Good news, but the fact that this is only happening now, nearly three years after the cyber attack shows 1) what a huge job BL staff have had rebuilding services, 2) that the BL is underfunded, and 3) the impact this has had on academic research, especially in the humanities.
