I don't know how but we have to teach people to be better at detecting bullshit. Instead we have this ersatz skepticism where people are suspicious about the wrong things and find their way to conclusions that are worse than if they just blindly accepted conventional wisdom

Aside from everything else that’s stupid about this, “blessed is the nation in which God is the Lord” is a falsifiable hypothesis that has been repeatedly falsified throughout history.
Hegseth: "Today, at my direction, I'm establishing the Office of Religious Affairs. It will report straight to the top -- a direct line to the secretary ... as Psalm 33:12 extolls us, blessed is the nation in which God is the Lord"

This 33-year-old nurse told the FBI she knew she was “going to set him free” after border patrol agents brought in a man whose face was bloodied and seriously injured. She treated him and helped him escape, and she faces charges now.

He got away, and they never relocated him.

These types of stories are crazy to me. "How will this thing that *won't work* work?" It won't! It's like when YouTubers try to unpack the exact physics of the Back to the Future time machine. It's fiction! It's made up!

you can tell that this white house really thinks things through carefully because less than 2 weeks ago Trump announced that he was launching an entire new branch of the military called AI Force, a term that he now says is illegal.
United States President Donald Trump issues executive order instructing federal government agencies to "use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' and will not acknowledge the usage of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting."

The immediate tweets by MAGA influencers, the prescheduled "victory lap" on Charlie Kirk's show, Schmitt really thought this was it. And it is pretty clear, perhaps enlightening even, that all of this was coordinated across right-wing media, of which Jim VandeHei is apparently a part of.

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡

Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong.

Here's the whole sequence:

This is the far more likely pathway for how AI will end us all, btw. Not via some superintelligent swarm of paperclip maximizers, but by a cascading sequence of dumb fuckups driven by human beings who have arranged things to be fast-moving and catastrophically fragile while also being really lazy.

Not the most interesting thing, but as a designer I find it pretty wild that thanks to the miraculous powers of generative AI, labor strikes, food trucks, youth sports flyers, YouTube thumbnails about women in video games and want ads all have the same slop aesthetics.

I think this is correct, and I've been thinking a lot about what replaces all this stuff. If it is going away, you'd think the institutional players would have some idea of what might take its place. But they don't seem to have a vision for that, or any interest in it. It's private equity mindset.
Fun part about David Ellison destroying CBS News, 60 Minutes and his late-night show is that he'll never be able to get any of it back. You could argue that latter was heading toward obsolescence anyway, but the Weiss-ification of the news has led to a permanent erosion of trust.
