For my research on misbehavior online, I studied both rules (norms, formal and informal) and laws (regulations). What rules and laws have in common is that both require enforcement in order to be effective. Without adequate enforcement, neither rules nor laws mean much at all. Enforcement is key.

I was raped at a frat party. It’s a shockingly common experience and preventative interventions in college are way too late.
In the aftermath of the Cornell rape case, @espiers.bsky.social reflects on her own experiences with sexual assault, and how our current models of consent-based sex education may not be enough.
My Rape, the Cornell Case—and Why We Need Better Approaches to Teaching How Consent Works

It’s not just one billionaire. It’s a full-blown cult of billionaires who believe dictatorship should replace democracy—and that technology (crypto and AI) will make this inevitable.

They say it loud.

Some guy just wrote a book about it (That guy is me!)

We worry about foreign interference by state actors in an election, but what about platform interference? For the most part, we hand-wave incidents of intereference away & memory-hole them.

Bolsonaro got 47% to Lula's 45% & now face a runoff in 3 weeks. What went wrong?

- Concerns about Lula's age (80) & incumbency
- Corporate media manufacturing scandals against him
- Trump helping Bolsonaro.

My look at how Lula could still win the runoff

On the one hand, it’s comforting to know that Americans aren’t uniquely stupid, voters everywhere have skulls filled with mush and worms. On the other hand, global fascism is probably not an ideal state of affairs.
Brazil looks over and like Bolsonaro's definitely winning the runoff. Some crazy flips too.

US interfering in hugely important elections in Brazil

MAGA wants a compliant comprador capitalist class ruling Latin America, just as they want a new MAGA Europe. Will Latin American society and political class fall in line? Or will they fight as Lula's political coalition is doing in Brazil?
“It’s either me, or it’s barbarism.” -- Lula

"If it weren’t for me standing up to these fascists they’d easily win another election. I’m the one standing in their way"

US has done Lawfare & Economic Warfare against Brazil & the continent & it is shocking how few americans know/care about it
Lula's response is dignified. The Workers Party says- "Brazil's sovereignty is non-negotiable..as President Lula stated, we will not accept interference from other nations in internal affairs...tariffs an irresponsible & criminal campaign against Brazil"
