Honestly it's a really weird perfect storm.
1) Netflix convinced everyone streaming was a goldmine. Reality proved otherwise
2) Pandemic shut down theaters keeping the streaming delusion alive.
3) Post pandemic interest rates and union strikes brought productions to a screeching halt.

It does feel like generally Disney is winding down Disney+ as the kind of place that has first-run stuff going forward. I'm sure the numbers show retention is mostly around families who want access to the Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars libraries and that the new stuff doesn't move the needle enough.
