An old barn, 6x8 watercolor.
I’ve passed by this barn without realizing it for years. When I finally got to take photos it was a misty dreary day.

Out for a walk, 5.5x8.5 watercolor.
I've been doing little neighborhood scenes in my sketchbook for small scale practice still. I was walking with my family admiring the sunset and how it lit up this car and truck. The warms vs cools contrast caught my eye too.

They’re both full, 5x8 watercolor.
A park shitter is not normally the place one looks for the state of the world, but who’s to say where truth can be found.

Gutting the Fourth Estate
The US media were willing cogs in Trump’s machine. Now he’s tearing it down.

Walk away from trash, 5x8 watercolor.

I walk past this spot 5 days a week. After how the last few weeks have gone, and *gestures broadly* I felt like it had a lesson for me this time.

A BMW in the Freddy's parking lot, 5.5x8.5 watercolor. A z28i I believe. I've been doing smaller sketches of things closer to home with the goal of improving basic skills more rapidly.

A car in the Freddy’s parking lot, 5.5x8.5 watercolor. Sorry about not posting recently. There’s been a lot of work of the bill-paying variety lately and it’s also been so very hot.

I’ve been hard at work for the monthly art guild critique this weekend. Here are some color studies I’ve done in preparation.

Neighbors pool, 15x22 watercolor.
#watercolor #painting #art
My daughter begs to come here when she isn't in school. Neighbors love her and granted her unlimited use if she makes a 'swimming license' each year. They said they wanted a painting of the pool so I'll see if they'll accept it as trade.

LAG house portrait, 9x12 watercolor, plein air.
#watercolor #painting #art
This past Sunday my the Lawrence Art Guild had a plein air event. Despite being pretty early in the morning, it was nearly 100 degrees and steamy, but we still had fun - it had been too long since I got out my easel.

My brother and I were here late one evening, up to say goodbye to a beloved relative. Groups of people were having bonfires up and down the beach. As always on Lake Superior, it was cold. We thought we'd watch the sunset too.

Place of refuge (lesser), 11x15 watercolor.
#watercolor #painting #art
I end up painting the Airbnbs I stay at. This one was in Superior, WI - built in the Forties I'd say based on the amount of in-wall shelving in the house. Nothing spectacular but it was a place of refuge when we needed one.

Rocktown traffic II, 11x15 watercolor.

This was a more free-wheeling attempt. A challenge I have is shutting off attention to detail. Things I perceive as errors sound klaxons in my brain, which has brought me some professional success but not always useful in making art.

We scheduled our annual fall trip back to Wilson Lake, so I was thinking about this place. When I was here last, I felt painting this place was beyond my skill level. It's easy to look at the distance you want to go and get down... (1/2)

In Hawaii, A pu'uhona is a place where those fleeing the law or war can go to find refuge if they aren't caught first. Those who made it and stayed there were never to be harned. Maybe we all are looking for this place.

Didn't feel like I did this scene justice, but I remember my grandma bringing me here to buy school clothes and watching the credit reciepts shoot up through the vacuum tubes.

This place is usually our first stop when it comes time for planting. We had not only our purchased basil plants this year but a bumper crop of opportunists from last year. Anyone want some pesto?

Vase book cup, 11x15 watercolor

A day when the weather sucked and I needed something to paint. So I arranged this little still life at my dining room table, which includes a cup made for me by a family member that I've drawn a few dozen times now.

First is the plein air sketch I started with. Next I moved it to my watercolor sketchbook to add color. Finally, the original scene. I might make this one into a full size painting as a gift for them letting us use the pool!
