I too miss the 1940s, a time when punching a nazi got you a medal instead of a court summons.

Used stuff in Berlin/Germany is either free to take or hilariously overpriced.

Just checked out the price of a Ninja Artisan pizza oven (my birthday is in October, and I want to make better pizzas). Either 229€ new from Ninja or 220€ used off Kleinanzeigen. What a deal.

Capitalism is inherently anti-humanity.

Humans are social creatures, capitalism is isolationist. It requires us to abandon our friends and loved ones for hours at a time. It isolates us in greed. It stains everything it touches.

Waiting on a package, reloading the tracking page to make sure a completely silent delivery attempt wasn't made.

Every non-White person I know who lives in France tells me about the regular racism they are made to endure, while once a week I'll read a headline like, "French doctor sexually assaulted 93 patients over 15 years"

After 4 hours on a coach on Friday I got a notification that I've been traveling with Airpods that aren't mine. I guess creeps are using them the same way they use AirTags.

99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up

“Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers

And visa versa

It's interesting to get into home sewing (and naturally fashion), which is a very strongly woman-oriented space. The disproportion of feminine to masculine body shape patterns on Threadloop is 29:1. In fact, the unisex patterns outnumber them 3.5:1.

Loving it regardless.

Germany's new SCHUFA credit rating system is great: you get dinged for being an immigrant who lives within their means:

Living under one address: 4 years (how long we've been in Germany)
Bank acct: 4 years
Mortgage: No
Credit card: No

Currently a part of the LED display has burnt out making it impossible to discern between 190 and 130.

The software in my air fryer is buggy and I have to turn it off and on after the timer dings. What a world we've built for ourselves.

An under-admired part of finding a job is unsubscribing from all the shitty job finder sites.

I can't imagine how same sex marriage could damage the institution as badly as Love is Blind Polska has tarnished it.

There are aprox 4932 sites in English that tell you how to file for unemployment benefits here in Germany, and literally one that describes how to inform the employment agency that you've found a job.

Just clocked a guy as Polish by his voice when we spoke German in Görlitz. Languages are weird.

I rarely complain about German bureaucracy, but waiting on a job contract because my "background check" is taking longer than two weeks is sending me.

Friend in the US posted some local gas prices, $6.69/gal regular. At today's rates, that's 6.42PLN/liter while Poland's average price for regular is 6.18PLN.

I don't think gas in Poland has ever been cheaper than in the US. Like... ever ever.

If Polish nationalists realized how much of the language comes from German (usually via Yiddish) they'd stop speaking it.

The problem of too many cars isn’t just about the tailpipes. And although EVs seemingly address that issue (or “move” much of it, depending on the electricity source), their increased weight, and the potential increase in size and distance driven (due to #JevonsParadox) make EVs “complicated.”

Cities should be putting more work into courting car shares: exclusive parking, larger zones, etc

There is a very real issue that if you need a car once a week, you will buy a car and then use that car for everything: after all, you already own a car. You covered all fixed costs.

One crappy thing about looking for a job is that you have to act exactly the same the whole time you're looking, no matter how far ahead you are in a recruitment process.

Polish #PKP IC trains have all been downgraded to quasi regional. They stop every 20-40km, adding 30-40 minutes to connections that take 2:18 direct.
