Eekhoorns en vogels hebben een haat-liefde relatie met de eikels van de Amerikaanse eik wegens het hoog tannine-gehalte. De biodiversiteit rond deze eik ligt vele malen lager dan onze inheemse soort... (insecten, voorjaarsbloeiers, rupsen...). Dat is de reden...

In Kalmthout laat het Agentschap Natuur en Bos een Amerikaanse eik bewust sterven. Daardoor zouden typische heideplanten meer kansen krijgen om te groeien. Is er geen andere optie?

For those who have been waiting for an update, Niño 3.4 sea-surface temperatures have been treading water at daily record "super El Niño" levels (≈2.6°C above the 1991-2020 baseline) for most of August.
The El Niño peak in the latest CFSv2 model run is now about 4.1°C.

This is the same reason monsoons in the desert turn into flash floods that wash out roads. The parched dry ground can’t absorb the sudden influx of water fast enough. Growing up in the desert we learned not to spend time in arroyos and were extra cautious crossing them if there was rain upstream.
Floods usually follow droughts. And droughts usually turn rainfall into floods as the dried out soil cannot easily absorb moisture.
The higher global temperatures rise, the more extreme droughts and subsequent floods become.
