My plan worked: my son is now pretty good at Saros (it took him 3 goes to get to a very good level of play, what is this kid) and he's now helping me out with the bosses. I love that videogames are something that we enjoy a lot together; he really does appreciate them on so many levels.

I've been playing Saros (badly) for the last couple of months and just asked my 10 year old if he wanted a go. Is this a ruse for me to watch him get good at it and help me with the tricky parts? Maybe.

If we aren’t doing this everywhere, what are we even doing?

Has anyone used Shmup Creator at all here? My son is obsessed with Gradius at the moment and I've read some good things about it. He's really good with Doom Builder and while he's learning basic coding, he just wants to make a game! It sounds like the kind of thing I would have loved as a kid.

For the last few weeks, we've had a juvenile robin in our garden and I've been going out to feed them and generally sit there while they hop about around me. Yesterday and today, they took food from my hand from our kitchen window. Best. Day. Ever.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state.

A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface.

And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

I'm very excited about this! Cowboy Koala, book one of my new three book series, will be out in January 2027! It's a weird west adventure with a whole host of funny characters and critters! Pre-ordering through Waterstones in October will also get you an exclusive sticker sheet!

Been obsessed with Still Wakes The Deep on the PS5. Such a great game: creepy and sad and just fantastic.

RIP Tim Curry. So many amazing roles but Auntie Whispers from Over The Garden Wall has stuck with me for years. Legend.

Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen.

Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.

A few weeks back, I made a junk sketchbook out of scrap paper, bags and just random bits I didn't want to throw away. It's been so much fun to work in!

I am very bad at promoting my books! I did a lovely Squid Bits workshop and signing at Waterstones Exeter last week; the store is amazing we had a great time. Hopefully I will be doing more with them soon!
