Devastated to share that my mom, Pat Dedman, has passed away. Cancer took her from us at age 78. It is a difficult and very sad time. I love you, Mom, and I miss you so much.

Crestfallen to learn The Book Exchange in Hickory, North Carolina will soon close its doors. It boasts a massive selection of used and long out-of-print paperbacks (including decades-old science fiction and horror books). When work took me to Catawba County, I would always try to visit this place.

Thirty-five years ago today, I walked from my home to the now defunct Town & Country Mall in suburban Houston to buy my pre-ordered copies of the USE YOUR ILLUSION albums by Guns N' Roses. It was, as you might suspect, the day of their release. Those were the days.

Thirty-one years ago today, I saw the Ramones open for Pearl Jam at South Park Meadows in Austin, Texas. That was an eventful weekend at that venue. The next night, 31 years ago tomorrow, I saw R.E.M. perform with opening acts Radiohead and Natalie Merchant. Oh, to be 19 again.

Thirty-four years ago today, I trekked to Fort Bend County, Texas to see Lollapalooza ‘92. Locked my keys in my car immediately after I arrived. Saw Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Ministry, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Lush, and Ice Cube on that mighty day of days. Had a photo pass!

Reminded that 34 years ago today I cut class at Stratford High School to see Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, and Faith No More at The Astrodome. Drove my ‘86 Dodge from suburbia to the venue and dug every minute of the experience. Those were the days.

The only modern (i.e. post-1970) Superman movie I did not see in the theater was SUPERMAN III, which in retrospect was a mistake. (I would happily trade it with SUPERMAN IV, an all-around depressing endeavor.)

Listening to The Doors, I am reminded I snuck into Olive Stone's biopic film back in March of 1991 (because I was not yet 17 or however old one needed to be in those days to see an R-rated film). Trekked to Memorial City Mall the next day and bought THE BEST OF THE DOORS greatest hits compilation.
