The female kestrel is a striking bird of prey, smaller than a pigeon but full of charisma. She wears warm brown plumage mottled with black, giving her a more cryptic appearance than her slate-grey-capped male counterpart. Her tail ends in a bold black band, edged with white, and her creamy chest is peppered with dark spots, like delicate ink splatters on parchment.
