ANN a pre-release of my (un)official Sentry SDK for Haskell.

this has been something i’ve been working on /very/ inconsistently since late last year and i’m happy to say it’s finally in good enough shape to share publicly.

this is something that I've been struggling with – there are now a half-dozen new CAD kernels in Rust, all with the same perfectly polished websites and bold claims about performance, test coverage, and quality

new technologies are always pitched as making your life easier and saving you time by people who don't use them. here i am reading bug report slop, whittling away my life trying to understand which are inconsequential and what tiny fraction is absolutely critical. is completely overwhelming

It’s easy to understand how I would feel because I think the New York Times should pretend to be non partisan while being totally in the tank for Democrats.
People who think the Times shouldn’t report on who is behind a Potemkin candidate should really ask themselves if they’d feel that way if such a move might hurt a candidate they favored. This is not a “hit piece” or an “October surprise,” it is journalism.

NEW: Remedy's latest game, Control Resonant, is filled with art galleries. The galleries are filled with real art

When I began talking to Remedy about it, I was delighted to discover who the artists are: many are the game developers' parents

My story...

Who made the art inside Control Resonant?
When the developers of Control Resonant needed to fill their video game version of New York City with art galleries, they tapped the talents of people they knew particularly well

it’s kind of funny that i’m no longer really that pessimistic about AI in the context of software engineering as a discipline, but over the last couple months i have become more pessimistic about the people in charge of existing software companies than i think i have ever been in my life.

I don’t know how people could say that programming and art are completely different disciplines when both workflows involve going ‘This will never work, I’m a failure’, changing one thing, then thinking you might be the smartest person alive

Many workplaces have adopted a discourse of empowerment met by just increasing productivity pressures, and what you get is people being told their skills are still valued while practically being shown they aren’t.

Asking engineers to reimagine their work isn’t something they can do in isolation.

When the government queries a massive database for a small amount of responsive data, what exactly is "searched," constitutionally speaking? The whole digital haystack? Just the needle? Courts are divided.

okay okay on the one hand i think this is a little rude but on the other hand if your revealed preference is you will totally shell out extra $$$ for convenience and the model picks up on that it feels more harmonious with reality than the alternative doesn’t it?
You asked AI for the cheapest flight. It dug through your emails, decided you could afford more, and suggested a ticket costing $100–$200 extra.

I grew up in a lower income immigrant family and we ate at Red Lobster for "special days." But we also understood the White House should not look like the inside of Red Lobster. It's condescending to assuming working ppl are culturally illiterate bc their experience is shaped by their limited means.
