It’s time for one of my favourite traditions of the year: Fashion Team Time!

- I got shopping with two fashionable friends; they pick out clothes for me to try on

- If they both say yes? I must buy it, no questions asked

- Always terrifying!

- 100% better than me creating a wardrobe on my own

This only in B.C program allowed untold homeowners to defer taxes at such a small rate that they could reinvest those deferrals into low-risk funds for a profit, at the same time rents were exploding in B.C.

But given the politics and who votes, I’d be surprised to see the NDP defend it.

The NDP anytime in the last decade when people complained about BC Ferries: “this is an arms lengths corporation with its own governance system that we would never interfere with, ever, what sort of crazy populism would that be?”

The NDP with two weeks left in a snap election they’re losing:

Amanda did the illustrations for the book and I can’t emphasize enough how lovely they are!
Lucky enough to get a copy of @jmcelroy.bsky.social's book to read on the ferry

just saw pete fry preparing to film a video in tinseltown mall, as one does a week before an election when you’re leading the polls

mark knows this is not how polls work

but mark is also legally banned from running in local elections this year

life is a rich tapestry, and the closer one gets to an election, the more spinners spin

🚨 Two new Vancouver mayoral polls are out 🚨

LEGER (includes undecideds)

Fry 21%
Sim 17%
Allam/Hardwick/Bligh 5-7%

CANDA PULSE INSIGHTS (only likely voters)

Fry 28%
Sim 27%
Allam 19%
Hardwick 13%
Bligh 7%

Eight days before the election, and it's pretty clearly a Fry-Sim race.

1) not hidden. actually incredibly distinct looking.
2) it’s 97% a bar and 3% a few thrift things for sale at the front
3) it has more than 1,000 google reviews and there are lineups out there door on weekends.

amazing amount of vapid dumbassery in just four seconds

I agree with the 2026 Vancouver Police Department that you need to centre data when talking about crime and perceptions, and do it through long-term trends instead of short term fluctuations or individual stats.

But that’s not how the 2020-2022 VPD talked about crime and perceptions.

Me: My life is sometimes weird but ultimately most of my problems are normal and relatable

also me: beck rescheduling his vancouver concert for the same day i booked the rio for my book launch is really causing issues for a very specific subset of my demographic

For the last 18 months, Ken Sim has focused on Sean Orr in a way we've rarely seen a mayor focus on an opposition councillor who isn't running for the top job

And in 10 days, we'll know if it was a smart move of a two-term mayor, or an unforced error of a one-term mayor

Sadly there are 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver, and it's too much for me to do mayoral debates/forums for all of them in a seven-week span in addition to everything else.

We'll have ended up doing big stuff for 9 of the 21 municipalities, which is pretty cool, but stuff does get missed.
@jmcelroy.bsky.social are you ad Stephen planning on talking to White Roc candidates? We're already into advanced polling and haven't heard anything. Did I miss it?

B.C. Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson just announced that Joachim Agou, their candidate in Victoria-Beacon Hill, is no longer part of their team due to incendiary tweets from last year advocating violence against protesters and implying that Pakistani immigrants make London look like a shithole

Today, the Vancouver Police Department issued a release saying "when it comes to the perception of public safety, the facts matter."

In 2020, when the crime rate in the city was down, Vancouver Police Department Chief Adam Palmer argued that feelings mattered as much as facts.

Hoooboy. The NDP has surfaced these fairly recent tweets from Joachim Agou, the Conservative candidate for Victoria-Beacon Hill.

Includes video of car driving into Sept 2025 pro-Palestinian demonstration in Switzerland and Agou replying in French: "He should have reversed as well!!!"

Sadly I don't have time to go to all-candidates meetings for local elections this time, because otherwise I could have seen a guy suing North Vancouver for $10 billion while running for mayor say "I built all of Chilliwack myself" while ending his pitch with "wake up, people".

👑KINGSGATE MALL EPISODE IS OUT👑

I'm ranking every mall in Metro Vancouver, and today we reach East Vancouver's iconic 1970s mall.

Yes, it's beloved — but why? What don't the haters understand about it? And is it actually a *good* mall?

Listen and read on to find out!
Mall Profile #17: Kingsgate Mall, by Cindy Masuch
Celebrated in song, beloved by the city, totally average in terms of stores inside: why do people love Kingsgate Mall so much?
