Always fascinating to see what turns up!
General opinion is that this is a fossilised whale tooth. The first I've found 😁

One of the Great Lakes best preserved wrecks is that of HMS Ontario. The 22 gun frigate sank in a storm on #LakeOntario in October 1780 with the loss of approximately 80 men.

Outstanding photo!
It's been far too long since I've spent some time photographing a slot canyon... I took this during a visit to Canyon X (Navajo Nation in Arizona) back in April 2017.

Ah, February 15th has another anniversary - when the Pound started to possess 100 pence rather than the previous...240.
Happy 55th birthday, UK decimal currency.

I’m old enough as an old git to remember the day. I collected hundreds of ½p coins in an old whiskey bottle before the coin got abolished

Today, February 15th, is National Flag of Canada Day, the anniversary of when our Maple Leaf flag was first raised. Also, on a single day, when Canada possessed 2 flags?

On Jan. 29, 1894, the first Quebec Winter Carnival was held.
The largest winter festival in the Western Hemisphere (and second largest on Earth), many aspects of the festival like the caribou drink, the ice palace and Bonhomme have become iconic.
This is its story.

#otd in 1965 Queen Elizabeth II proclaimed the National Flag of Canada. The original proclamation is one of @library-archives.canada.ca's many treasures. Last June, I had the pleasure of showing it off to a Radio-Canada TV crew for a Canada Day special. #cdnhist #vexillology

Indeed sad to hear sudden death of a talented historian.
I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my PhD supervisor at Cambridge Professor David Abulafia. A very talented historian as well as a great supervisor and mentor who gave me sound career advice when I needed it. May his memory be a blessing. www.cai.cam.ac.uk/news/david-a...

Greenland, and its circular red and white flag, has been much in the news. Well...

In 1963, Canadian Art/Weekend Magazine ran a competition for a new Canadian flag. The winner was this abstract modernist design by Rolland Lavoie. The rest is history!

Keep them on the shelves?
More than 10,000 books were tossed from the shelves at H.B. Beal Secondary School's library last year. Thames Valley District School Board said recycling the books was part of a standard review practice, but some librarians and archivists say there are better ways to give books a second life.

Interesting development in the mid-Atlantic.
Russian media reports that American forces are currently attempting to board shadow fleet tanker 'Bella 1'/'Marinera'.

The US Navy has been chasing the ship across the Atlantic from the coast of Venezuela for over two weeks now.
