I think when Cory Doctorow was talking about the enshittification of everything he specifically meant printers.

All I want is a printer with no wifi or software or scanning devices or updates or pricier-than-gold-ink. Just one that I can plug into my laptop and print something out. I don't know why this is so hard, EVERY TIME.

Netflix is confused by my viewing habits, mostly because I choose things to leave on for the dogs when I go out. Most recently they have watched all but the last two episodes of The Diplomat, and a good chunk of Shrill.

Nor for me. AI is a useful writing tool for people who 1. don't really enjoy writing/aren't good at it, in which case fair enough, but why would you be working as a writer? or 2. just cannot be arsed

I could not agree more. They might be worthy books or educational books - but they are not the kind of page turners that have you up till 3am.
If I'd fallen out of love with reading (never going to happen!) then most of these books would not tempt me back. Honestly, I wish just once that someone would be real and say, "I had a terrible reading slump then I reread Riders by Jilly Cooper and it cured me." www.theguardian.com/books/2026/m...

This explanation makes me sad: Alex Preston is properly taking responsibility, but what a bloody *stupid* way to torch your reputation (and your ability to write for quite a few outlets) to save a few minutes.

As he's taken responsibility and not made excuses I feel able to say: poor guy.
I wrote on AI trashing literary life, and spoke to Alex Preston about the NYT book review scandal
