We're at the National Museum of Korea! It's totally free but you have to go through a security check to get in. Girl is going through security line. The security officer asks, in Korean, "no phone in your pockets, right?". Girl says "yes" in Korean. She thinks to herself: "omg I understood him and replied!" Girl walks through the security scanner. It starts beeping loudly. Girl sweats and realizes "I was so excited I understood what was happening that I forgot to actually take my phone out" Girl apologizes to security officer and hands over her phone. Security officer says, "Even though I asked you", in Korean. Girl replies "I'm sorry" in Korean.

I LEARNED COOL FACTS ABOUT TREES

#art #comic #nature
A comic titled "Neat Things: Coast Redwoods" I recently visited Muir Woods, home to an old growth coastal redwood forest with trees over 500 years old and up to 100 meters tall! [Girl is standing in the middle of a redwood forest with an awed expression.] Redwoods can drink 160 gallons of water PER DAY... and if you have a whole forest, you need a lot of water!! [Girl offers a redwood tree a glass of water, asking "Thirsty?"] But these trees grow in areas where there isn't much rain, especially in the summer months... [A map of California showing the natural range of coast redwoods, which is along most of the Californian coast.] Instead, water is delivered by... [Girl adjusts her glasses knowingly.] KARL! (AKA the famous San Francisco fog that forms due to the particular way land and ocean meets in the area) [Karl is illustrated as a cloud with a friendly face.] When Karl arrives on the coast... [Fog envelops a redwood forest.] the scale-like upper needles collect moisture... [An illustration of a coast redwood branch that has dense, tightly packed needles.] ...and drip water down to the forest floor! This accounts for 34% of the tree's water per year! (ALSO APPARENTLY THEY CAN ABSORB WATER DIRECTLY THROUGH THEIR BARK????) Coast Redwoods can make their own rain... and I think that's neat! [Girl is holding an umbrella in a forest and wearing rubber boots, about the step into a puddle.] Citations Dawson, "Fog in the California redwood forest: ecosystem inputs and use by plants", 1998 Earles et al, "Bark water uptake promotes localized hydraulic recovery in coastal redwood crown", 2015 "Sequoia sempervirens", conifers.org/cu/Sequoia.php

I would climb Mt. Everest if there was an incredible plot twist at the top

#art #comic
Girl is sitting on a couch with a cat nearby. A guy, holding a phone, says to her "Do you want to do a hike that's the equivalent of climbing a 100-story building?" He is planning a trip to New Zealand. Girl slumps on the couch a bit. She says, "I don't think I want to do that." Guy replies, "Are you sure? The view is supposed to be amazing." Girl has a thoughtful look. She says, "I'm not really motivated by views for hikes..." Guy asks, "What would motivate you?" Girl looks determined and replies "Lore."

Girl looks increasingly concerned. Girl yells, "aaaaaaa" She grabs the Nintendo Switch and runs out of the room, exclaiming "aaaa I'm sorry it's not you it's meee!!" my spouse and I have a fight over floppy disks #retrotech #comic
Comic title: Right side up A screenshot of a tweet by Nobi Hayashi reads: Why is the "save" button on MS Excel represented by a picture of a vending machine? (with purchased drink at the bottom). A question by young Japanese caught a buzz in Japan Girl: (looking amused) Kids today don't know what floppy disks are anymore, huh? Boy: haha that's funny Boy: ... but why is the save icon upside-down? Girl: (looks shocked) Girl: WHAT? Girl: You're supposed to write on the disks like this! They were printed that way! (Girl points to a floppy disk with the metal side down) Boy: (points to a floppy disk with the metal side up) But they were printed like this too Girl: (looking increasingly more frantic) You can't find the disk you want if you don't store them writing side up!! (points to a floppy disk storage case) Boy: (also looking frantic) Since you insert them metal side first, it makes sense to hold it like this! (floppy desk metal side up) Girl: (sobbing) I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE LIKE THIS Boy: AHHHHHH
