Alignment is a conceptual container escape.

"is this model being reinforced on the things we ACTUALLY care about?" yes good, important question

"Is panopticon hypercapitalism the BEST solution for humanity or merely a stepping stone to..." honey not now grown ups are talking

That didn't take long. "keep them monitored on an API" is OpenAI saying, "hey regulator, pls make our model-as-a-service duopoly the only option" bsky.app/profile/quan...
lol two months ago OpenAI was signing a letter about how important open weights models were and now their house propagandist is saying “we will ban open weights and you will thank us for it”. You can’t hate this company enough

There's no explanation for Anthropic posting a whitepaper about Houthis vibecoding missile guidance *the day after they roll up Yemen* unless you are kinda into NSA being up in your shit.

Houthis use Windows too but you don't see Microsoft posting about it.

Which is why Anth and OAI and the rest are going to be mental until IPO. Clock is ticking until things become Normal Tech.

Banning private open models as Too Dangerous is one way to hedge this threat. So expect maximum spooky for a bit.

This dynamic does not mean runaway agent swarms aren't real

There are very real safety concerns we need to address with generative LLMs. Deepfakes, privacy, AI psychosis, etc

We don't need to entertain goofy nonsense from people claiming they're inventing the torment nexus from the science fiction classic "Dipshit That's Not The Torment Nexus Go Outside."

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state.

A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface.

And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

Personal update.

Last week I skipped the final interview at a place very likely to be bought by Anthropic. Maybe OpenAI. Turns out I didn't need to see the offer.

Today talked to a small team that helps Medicaid recipients get to good healthcare. Union jobs. Smart people. Feels like the future.
