In class, when he wasn't critiquing or lecturing, he doodled with whatever tool was handy. He'd sometimes tear these doodles up and toss them in the trash after class, prompting a mad rush of Kubies to the basket to recover what he'd done. Here's one that I recovered and taped back together.

Ah that's a shame, word going around that Catherine Ringer of the amazing Les Rita Mitsuoko, legit one of the greatest French acts ever, has died. Her partner Fred Chichin died some years ago, so that's a final conclusion to that remarkable chapter. Here's one of their landmarks, just oozing cool.

in retrospect it was kind of odd that i, a 23-year-old, spent the final third of 2001 patiently studying new music from grizzled veterans like Dylan and Lowe, almost completely unengaged with the contemporary (apart from Shakira, whose Laundry Service turned 25 last week)
Also the 25th anniversary of this wonderful album, which might just be the old pro's masterpiece.

been hearing for a yr or more that it was derelict, just boxes of vinyl + remnants of equipment being trashed or scavenged...it was doubtless a hazard to leave it like that but its 💔 that in 2026 there's no UNESCO, no Bogdanovich, no Ministry of Culture to step in & preserve the tangible heritage
