Lane Kiffin called timeout after the opening kickoff of the second half. He gathered up LSU's players.

He'd just been asked by the refs if he wanted a running clock versus McNeese State. And he used that to send a message.

FINAL: LSU beats McNeese State 63-14.

Tigers run 101 plays, breaking a program record set in 1969, and pick up 731 total yards, which is the second-most in program history.

Lane Kiffin was running real plays to the bitter end.

Stacy Gage goes Juggernaut. Ran through a wall and just kept going for a 46-yard touchdown.

LSU leads McNeese State 55-14.

We've seen quarterback Husan Longstreet in the third quarter of this game. Both times, he's been a punt returner.

The former five-star recruit showing some versatility.

After that Harlem Berry rush for a score, LSU has scored touchdowns on seven of its eight drives vs. McNeese State. That's five in a row since Sam Leavitt's INT.

Direct snap to frosh DT Deuce Geralds. No one from McNeese State wanted any part of that.

Pretty dominant, as you'd expect. LSU up 35-0 at the break.

LSU's defense allowed two first downs on the first drive -- and then none the rest of the half. Tigers outgained McNeese State 347 yards to 31.

The time has arrived: LSU subs Landen Clark in for Sam Leavitt.

Leavitt had five drives, four for TDs, one INT. He was 17/22 for 164 yards and two TDs.
October 4, 2026 at 1:11 AM
The freshman WR Corey Barber Jr. flashes a couple of times on a TD drive, once on Sam Leavitt's prettiest throw of the day, just in-bounds along the sideline. Then a 6-yd TD grab.

28-0, LSU, 4:01 2Q

LSU QB Sam Leavitt appears to be coming out for a fifth drive. Not holding him back, it seems

A bunch of youngsters out there for LSU's defense with a 21-0 lead. Got Tylen Singleton at linebacker. Freshmen Deuce Gerald, Richard Anderson and Lamar Brown on the DL.

Geralds with a sack. His 5th of the year.
October 4, 2026 at 12:57 AM
Landen Clark subs in late in Sam Leavitt's fourth drive, and Clark runs three yards for a score. We'll see if Leavitt's day is done. He's 14/19 for 117 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.

21-0, LSU, 7:37 2Q

LSU edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen with his eighth sack on the year, just over four games into the season.

Sam Leavitt's 3rd drive ends with an INT. Had Winston Watkins open up the seam again, was dropped again. Tried to throw another there to Eugene Wilson and it was picked.

He's still 13-17 for 103 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT. His 7th INT this year.
October 4, 2026 at 12:41 AM
Sam Leavitt will go out for LSU drive No. 3.
October 4, 2026 at 12:30 AM
Sam Leavitt with a quick toss to Troy transfer Roman Mothershed for a 2-yard touchdown.

Leavitt is 10-of-11 passing for 72 yards and a score, and his one incompletion should have been a TD to a wide-open Winston Watkins Jr. down the seam.

14-0, LSU
October 4, 2026 at 12:21 AM
LSU gets the freshman WR Corey Barber Jr. onto the field on a fourth-and-short play. He comes up with the catch on a Sam Leavitt rollout.

Second drive for LSU. Still Sam Leavitt at QB.

Lane Kiffin could roll with a transfer QB from Elon tomorrow. @reeddarcey.bsky.social with a story on Landen Clark, the LSU backup who reminds Kiffin of his last small-school find at QB.

Enough that Kiffin had to clarify, "I'm not saying he's Trinidad."

It may have been jarring for most people to hear LSU athletics has a $26 million deficit.

But it wasn't surprising to sports economists. Nor do they necessarily think it's a catastrophe. As one put it, "Every time I order pizza, I'm running a deficit."

How shocking is LSU athletics’ projected $26 million deficit? We asked economists what it means.
LSU president Wade Rousse revealed a $26M deficit for the school’s athletic department. We had economists put that figure into perspective.

Coming into the season, Sam Leavitt's viability as a running threat was questioned coming off of foot surgery.

On Saturday, he couldn't run because of a pulled hammy. And he had his best game for LSU.

He played "pure point guard."
www.nola.com/sports/lsu/l...
Here’s why a pulled hamstring helped LSU QB Sam Leavitt excel as a ‘pure point guard’
One of Sam Leavitt’s greatest weapons, his legs, were taken away from him by a hamstring injury. That forced LSU’s quarterback to lock in as a passer.
