I'm astonished by the margins, but not by the support:

People are civic minded and practical. It turns out if you explain your reasoning for something, and are trusted to deliver that something, they are willing to support you.

The best thing about the national commission and pledge to change the voting system is conference can now debate interesting stuff that we might disagree on 😅

Sorry, did bluesky come up with a plan to fix social care last night?

Why is everyone acting shocked Burnham has said the social care fix will take time.

Casey report due summer 2027. Why is the idea of delivering changes after the next general election anything other than realistic?

There's nothing to stop all parties agreeing to the plans between now and the election, making it becoming a non contested promise in all party's manifestos.

Irl it will probably produce a plan all parties agree on (Except Reform, jury out on Tories) with disagreements in how to fund it.

I do find this country mad. Anyone can see that social care is in a state of devastating crisis in this country and that it is the key source of the NHS crisis as well. There is no feasible way to solve it without everyone contributing.

Burnham is honest about that and is already getting pelters.

It’s wild that we have an organisation tasked with saving lives and a movement whose members try to commit murder, and large sections of the press treat the question of which one is good and which one is bad as, at best, debatable.
5. After around 30 hours at sea, the dinghy was intercepted by the RNLI and those on board transferred to two lifeboats. Two lifeboat personnel tried to secure the empty dinghy. Thomas yelled abuse and knifed the dinghy to deflate it - with a rescuer still on board.

Today, the government has announced it is bringing in statutory bereavement leave for pre-24 week pregnancy loss from next April.

This will make a huge difference to women and their partners who experience the pain of losing a pregnancy - and finally recognise it as the bereavement that it is.

Galloway's a vile man.

This is just another lesson in how you can never appease the cranks. Polanski's mealy mouthed statment only shows how unable he is to confront these people in his own Party.

Well said Rishi Sunak.
Democratic politics must continue to be a contest of ideas, not a fight about skin colour defining your identity.
There is much on which Tory & Labour politicians disagree - on this we must unite.

He's right about the power of cricket too 🏏

I've seen some Greens trying to claim Burnham wouldnt be PM without the Green party. Ignoring the mental gymnastics for a moment; I dont understand why people who clearly want to influence Labour would not be in the party.

Anthropic playing a blinder with this slowdown stuff. Really makes me dismiss the bubble concerns and assures everyone that the money will come, just slower.

My major concern here isn't actually the donations itself.

Its what they will be able to accomplish on an unregulated and, fankly, dangerous social media landscape.

Anyone with experience running political ads knows how big a reach a fraction of this could get.
Astounding story. Reform receives a *second* £36m donation from a crypto billionaire in 48 hours.

Christopher Harborne- the £5m benefactor- has matched Ben Delo's money pound for pound.

£72m in total. Approaching US politics sort of money.

I'm proud to be standing with Emily for the NPF. Her commitment to our party, its ideals and standards has been unwavering.

I've been so upset to see how Emily has been treated, and the refusal to engage and support her has driven the need to make this public.

We are failing the LGBT community.

It is long beyond time to do something about this toxic and ungoverned social media culture. Under-16s are not the problem - the algorithmic rewarding of grift and extremism is poisoning our societies. Let's call it clicktremism.
• So much of it is about the clicks. All the time they are encouraging viewers to subscribe, like and comment.
• Tommy Robinson has encouraged such types to view themselves as 'journalists'. "I'm here as a reporter," one tells so passers-by. But this utter delusion.

The outpouring of support I've seen from the community here in Portsmouth for the RNLI yesterday and today has been heartwarming.

Social media is a cesspit of a breeding ground for the far right. It does not represent the country or our communities. Only the political aims of its owners.
Seriously, why are people still calling them "protests" after this sort of thing? In what way are these expressions of "legitimate concerns"?

I'm very depressed that: 'Reform group leader gleefully attends second hate mob, only to go home when they realised they racially profiled the wrong people;' isn't a resignation matter.

Madgwick has a history of dodgy behaviour that would have ended poltical careers even 5 years ago.

Many books will be written, if they're not already waiting to publish, about how the US and Isreali far right burnt all their nations soft power influence, for nothing.

Curiously, the French translation of the Reform ‘agreement’ doesn’t say that France will take back small boat migrants intercepted in British waters.
Un passage du document, stipulant en anglais que la France va «accepter» sur son sol les migrants interceptés dans les eaux britanniques, ne figure pas dans la traduction française.

The intimidating and thuggish behaviour seen last night has no place in Portsmouth. The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy, but it must never cross a line into disorder.

I am continuing to work with the Home Office, local services and fellow MPs, to support communities today.
