Brad Lander is just such an outrageously joyful guy
Sukkot commands us to welcome guests and to find joy together. You never know when strangers might turn out to be angels.

It was an honor to welcome @mayor.nyc.gov — and some very special ushpizin (exalted guests) — to our sukkah this week.

The number of retirees who drive for my local refugee support group! SO MANY! Driving folks to appointments, to work, to the food pantry, they're such a lifeline.
Every time some pundit claims that no one would work if their basic needs were met, I think about how, after he retired, my dad would just show up at estate sales with his truck and offer to help folks take their furniture home because he just wanted to keep busy and be around people.

Today at the gym someone putting away a bench said “pardon me” and I said “you’re pardoned!” and someone else said “everyone is pardoned” & I didn’t understand why she sounded so grim until someone else said viciously “we’ll just write a REFLECTIVE ESSAY about it”

So
That's a morning vibe

Extra credit to my student who squinted at it and said:

It’s a bird
There’s no goat
It’s a bird
Obviously a bird
Who can see a goat
OH MY GOD I SEE THE GOAT
GOAT OR BIRD????

Connecting rhetorical concepts
Paragraphs
- Unscramble!
Paper structure
- Reverse outline
Goat or bird?!
GOAT OR BIRD????

Oh this is really good
There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible!

Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435).

In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed.

So Holly moved him.

Sanhedrin 75: A man set his eyes upon a certain woman and passion rose in his heart, to the point that he became deathly ill. The doctors said: He will have no cure until he has sex with her.

The Sages said: Let him die.

A deep wound. A moral injury.

Listen none of us even has to care about Macklemore! These statements are so clear. “We can’t play where we can’t say Free Palestine.” That is where the solidarity lies, that is why this is so exciting.
The way Ed Sheeran's musicians are all like "we love Ed but we're Irish, we can't play if we can't say Free Palestine." WHEW.

people are quitting a tour in support of Palestine. it is pretty fucking important that this is framed properly: nobody is quitting a tour for Macklemore.

I also think it is great that the kind of mega rich guy who mostly operates behind the scenes in these situations is having his name blasted everywhere and framed, correctly, as the person who actually made the call

not to exculpate Ed, but as a reminder of how business decisions in music get made

IMO, the solution should not be to browbeat people into an old standard, but rather allow people to wear whatever they want. If someone can wear ducky pajamas in public, you can wear tailoring in any cut, color, and material. As options open up, dress can then be a source of pleasure.

It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.
