What is the Hannibal Directive?

How and why was it activated on Oct 7th, as the Israeli defense minister admitted?

And how many Israelis were killed as a result of it on Oct 7th?

A dear friend of mine has bravely launched all on her own a project she’s been holding in her heart for many years: The Anamnesis Project, dedicated to engaging with learning and knowledge “as forms of inner remembrance and embodied recollection of what is already essential within us.”

In European languages other than English, do you never put a space between a person's initials (e.g. "L. M.")?

Or is it optional?

In English, I always put a space:
L. M. Montgomery, not L.M. Montgomery
G. K. Chesterton, not G.K. Chesterton

It seems like the Dutch prefer G.K. Chesterton, etc.

epa, have you guys switched to using "Ottoman Türkiye" instead of "Ottoman Turkey"?

Heartened to see that my university is ending its contract with Turnitin before the next academic year, because Turnitin is going to use student submissions to train AI models. Institutions can and should resist this stuff!

As most universities lean into ai (LLMs, stochastic parrots, text extruders, genAI, whatever), I kinda figured we would see certain universities reject AI writing in its entirety. . . . . Has that happened anywhere?
