Sorry @blyskyss.bsky.social I would have liked a viable alternative but I can’t work with the character limit and FB format and Flashes presents similar problems for me so I’m heading back to Instagram.

The pleasure of a new platform is that I can post new work along with some old favourites to provide context. A charcoal drawing from 2008 - a group contemplating Michael Craig-Martin’s tribute to Piero in the Kunsthaus Bregenz (the gallery designed by Peter Zumthor on the shore of Lake Constance)

Ramadan - in Marrakesh. The Musee de la Palmerie cactus garden this time last year. Not sure how the sound works here but the calls to prayer were coming from three nearby mosques simultaneously, fluctuating and overlapping beautifully.

Port Botany container terminal - the birthplace of “modern Australia” (terra nullius) or the site of the Invasion. Still in the business of Transportation…

The constantly flashing gantry lights and the floods blasting away in those hours just before dawn, rendered puny under the pre-dawn expanse.

“Objects penetrate one another. They never cease to be alive.” Paul Cézanne

The great Cézanne! In my still life paintings I want to coax a sense of the interpenetration and vivacity of objects in painting - the way they are united in space and light.

This is me 35 years ago with my first exhibition in New Zealand. I’ll be back there in a couple of weeks for a month, with a show opening on April 10 at Two Rooms gallery in Auckland. Not many characters available here so I’ll be supplementing on images here on Substack. Stay with me! 🙂✊❤️‍🔥
