BREAKING: In Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson's new proposed city budget being released Tuesday, there is no projected deficit through 2030. Given the state of the projected deficit over the past many years, this is quite an achievement.

part of this is obviously national political conditions but don't underrate the extent to which a bunch of these incumbent republicans have never had to run a competitive general election campaign and basically do not know how to do it

It's pretty damn impressive how much ground Mayor Mamdani has been able to cover after only nine months in office on a wide range of basic quality-of-life issues in NYC.

I was reading through the numbers this morning, and they're kinda astonishing.

I really enjoyed meeting Kelabe recently at the House Our Neighbors event. I found him very thoughtful and smart, and I think if he’s elected he would be great to collaborate with in the House!

i’m sorry but this entire worldview seems not just evil but deeply stupid? the far future is fake! it doesn’t exist! what matters are people here and now!
Nick Beckstead, noted longtermist and "effective altruist,” just comes out and says it:

"But it now seems more plausible to me that saving a life in a rich country is substantially more important than saving a life in a poor country, other things being equal."

One of my favorite series, I read it every year at least once, and I find something new and wonderful every time. Words are magic, librarians can save the world, and everyone and everything has a time to die.
Hello old friend ❤️

I bought this brand new. Its pages are incredibly yellowed and its spine is worn down but its going to get me through another adventure through the Old Kingdom.

100%. This makes no sense, unless you don’t want middle housing.
Expanding unfunded inclusionary zoning taxes to cover middle housing across the entirety of Seattle would render HB1110 functionally inoperative.

Perversely, it would also be a dramatic step backward for housing equity, since it would make high-resource neighborhoods even more exclusive.
RIP WA state infill housing bill HB1110, the city finally found their way to kill it.

Have you assigned your Democracy Vouchers yet #Seattle? Join me in supporting @niluj.bsky.social for City Council!
Happy three year work anniversary to me! Three years working to strengthen and protect our democracy and voting rights. Seems like a good day to ask a friend in District 5 if they’ve contributed their democracy vouchers to a democracy champion! 😉

Just got out of a press conference at city hall where Maritza Rivera attacked Katie Wilson as "about ideology" and said that the mayor is "not interested in doing the hard work to make things better in Seattle." She also said that Wilson "does not believe in police."
