Does it not seem insane and also symbolic of the irrationality of American bigotry that Trump, who is *responsible for the last act of political violence on the Senate* is calling someone else a terrorist because he’s Muslim. The only one with a record of inciting terrorism here is the president

Important stuff here from @nberlat.bsky.social, who is rightly raising the alarm about how virulent anti-trans hate has become on the right.
New in PN: We’ve blown past mere “transphobia”

"Hitler used hatred of Jewish people to try to build power, and then he used that power to eliminate Jewish people. The Republican Party has a similar relationship to trans hate."
We’ve blown past mere “transphobia”
Republicans are peddling genocidal hate.

Elon's biggest fear is that Democrats will unrig the political system when they take power.

I've never heard a better argument for why Democrats should unrig the political system when they take power.

Oh please. Elon Musk's biggest concerns are:

1) His illegal activities will be investigated and exposed

2) A more responsible US government will cancel contracts with his companies

3) He will see more people of color around than he'd like, and will have to interact more with people he doesn't pay
Rattled.

Musk: “My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028, they will:

1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.

If you're complaining that your history professor doesn't display "any sense of patriotism," you're telling me you don't understand in the slightest what the field of history is actually all about.

A reminder that the Department of Education is now run by a rich hack who came from pro wrestling.

Back in the 90s and 90s scholars in the social sciences and humanities developed analytical frameworks that helped explain how seemingly race neutral policies like drug laws or urban renewal were still systematically racist. I appreciate how the White House has obviated the need for such theories.

Protests and riots in various countries over affordability are, to some extent, Iran war protests.

Food and fuel got more expensive, in very visible ways, putting strains on everything else? Wasn’t out of nowhere. And will get worse.

But the populist reaction is blame whoever’s currently in power.

Americans watching Brazil: You voted *against* putting fascists back in power after they attempted a coup and rioted at government buildings? And your institutions take steps to hold influential people accountable for coup-plotting, election interference, and other crimes? Huh. That sounds nice.

FFS, NY Times!! He is not pursing “economic incentives” to “secure an end to the war in Ukraine!” He is giving Putin this money in exchange for gifting Lukoil to his friends, family and Middle Eastern bag men!

It’s just so appalling and enraging how casual and commonplace this has become. I’m out of words.

Major press failure: treating Jared Kushner taking foreign bribes and shaping US foreign policy as less relevant than Hunter Biden not taking bribes nor influencing policy.

Covering Kushner accurately was considered partisan, biased. Lies about Hunter or his minor actions treated as more important.

The biggest reason his would-be regime has basically been stillborn is that he's not capable of the long-range straegic planning necessary to do regime change.

Most of his closest subordinates are also either incompetents or fanatics. Hence the persistent overreach and obviously-doomed endeavors.

The competence of the authoritarian side isn't usually analzyed because the paradigmatic cases feature talented political minds — Orban, Chavez, Modi, Netanyahu, and (early) Erdogan.

The US case is exceptional. Trump is a savant at controlling the GOP but a total policy idiot.

I agree with this in broad strokes, but the underlying connective tissue here is more of a character problem: this administration is simply bad at authoritarianism.

Their policy judgment and execution has been ham-handed and incompetent because *they* are ham-handed and incompetent
Three moments broke Trump 2.0:

1) Kimmel and other attempted censorship after Charlie Kirk. Made public see the attack on speech.

2) Minnesota anti-ICE protests, Goode and Pretti killings. Made public see the attack on rights.

3) Iran war. Made public see bad foreign policy affects them directly.
I do think when historians look back the period the exact moment where it flipped and started going the other way won’t be anything any politician did but my Minneapolis neighbors weathering the worst of the regime in the streets, rallying together, fighting back, and winning

Elon Musk is spending hundreds of millions to elect Republicans, an unprecedentedly huge amount from one person, and it’s a lot less than the value of contracts his companies got from this government he paid to elect and worked in.

Many reports say “his own money,” few note unprecedentedly corrupt.

It is also very telling that in Trump's "fantasy world" Ukraine is simply a territory and Ukrainians are almost nonexistent. He keeps talking as if Russian tanks wouldn't be met with resistance in their attempt for a "quick drive" to Kyiv (they were). No wonder his affinity is with Putin.

Disgusting.

One of the underreported stories of the last years is that since Trump took office and he started his so-called "peace effort" Russia has intensified its mass murder against Ukrainian civilians.
While U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Russia "has been fine on Ukraine," civilian casualties rose 85% in September 2026, with U.N. officials warning that October is among the deadliest periods in years.

Trump openly siding with Russian aggression, not just rhetorically but now with US policy intervention that boosts the Russian economy and facilitates Russian attacks in Ukraine, appears to have broken a dam.

Leaders who held back in an attempt to keep Trump on side are admitting that didn't work.
