Unironically the lack(to my knowledge) of this effect is core to why I feel the series lost its way as soon as TTYD.
Some areas in Paper Mario feature a rim lighting effect that is achieved in a manner that is extremely simple for the surprisingly effective results it produces, being simply shifting around a shadow copy of the sprite.

every time i think about returning to college i get stuck on the arbitrary requirement to get an internship for a semester, and how companies here will literally not pay you because the law behind the requirement says the credit hours(that the student pays for), are valid compensation.
