One of my favorite columns at the @bostonglobe.com is the art section's One Special Thing, a chance for writers and editors to focus on books, movies, objects, etc. that they love. For this week's installment I wrote about John Dos Passos and his U.S.A. trilogy. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/08/27/a...
In his ‘U.S.A.’ trilogy, John Dos Passos penned a love letter to America’s workers and dreamers - The Boston Globe
If there were ever a work that deserved the phrase “more than the sum of its parts,” it would be this series of novels — “The 42nd Parallel” (1930), “1919” (1932), and “The Big Money” (1936) — written...

$500, some highlighters, and ten days to wrap it up. Treat candidates like we treat teachers.
We should just publicly fund political campaigns

Everyone gets $500

Okay, so I know I'm followed by a handful of serious writers, and @faineg.bsky.social by even more.

I need one of you to explain the AI rationalist sex cult in a publication I can share to LinkedIn and have folks take seriously.

As it is in all arguments with toddlers, this will end in something being broken, and no lessons learned.
BREAKING: Judge Cooper, again, says the Kennedy Center board can't put Trump's name on the building. Also, Cooper says they can't name it Trump Plaza.

97% of eligible voters will have the option to vote early in the midterms.

Because MAHA doesn't truly care about reducing harm through environmental regulations; they care about scaring consumers into buying their snake oil products. It's a grift.
“MAHA” says environmental exposures are driving chronic disease.

So why is the EPA of the same administration weakening protections against some of the best-documented environmental health risks?

Yet again, California stepping into the void of federal leadership.

With Trump unleashing insane tirades against regulating AI, Obama just urged Dems to adopt a comprehensive position on it, warning that failure to act now will be "dangerous."

Trump's malevolence has given Dems a big opening. They should seize on it. 1/

The Real Reason Obama’s Harsh Warning to Dems About AI Is So Unnerving
Most Democrats have more or less the right position on AI. But their arguments are way too narrow to dramatize the real stakes. They should aim higher.

Good thread. I wish the Democratic party would pay heed but I'm not hopeful.
Trump is a world-historical villain who's putting us all in extreme danger, so put him at the center of this story. Dems can highlight how Trump is actively using DOJ and EPA to help AI data centers steamroll communities, and vow that a Dem majority will stop it. 2/
