I've seen a lot of comic artists looking to itch with the upcoming Tapas closure, so reminder that I made a very detailed guide about publishing books on itch, for those who have never done so (and since it's a little different than uploading games):

This headline makes it sound 50/50, but the poll shows almost twice as much active support for rejoin as opposition to it. 50% support rejoin, but only 28% oppose it! 🇪🇺

🚨 Proud wife alert! 🚨
My husband's novel released today. It's a cyberpunk romance, the first in a series, and he's had some fantastic reviews from ARC readers already. It's been amazing to see him work so hard and finally get to this (very well deserved) success! ✨

I've been using an under-desk treadmill for a couple of months and I love it. But storing it in my tiny office has been a pain. Today I'm finally tackling the daunting task of taking every single item off my crammed bookshelves to move them about three inches over, so I can fit it next to them... 😐

Lovely couple of days at CIEP conference, meeting editor friends and talking editing things (and drinking wine and quizzing)! As ever, I've come away with a to-do list as long as my arm, and refreshed inspiration and enthusiasm for words, stories, and my business!

On my way to CIEP conference (@the-ciep.bsky.social) for editor fun - and very important learning opportunities, obv! I look forward to hopefully seeing some of you there! 😃

Late to this party, but love seeing people's trinkets!

From left to right: Portuguese verbs, gold lucky cat from our trip to Japan, rose quartz, ceramic bird skull, cute washi tape, tiger's eye, bookmark I made at a Women in Horror event. Not pictured: all the other clutter and books on my desk 😳

What the actual fuck is wrong with the games industry? It's worth hundreds of billions of dollars, and yet... No matter how big or small the company, layoffs. No matter how successful the game, layoffs. No matter how much you personally contribute, layoffs.

Why on earth should he be allowed to resign as MP for Clacton and announce he's going to stand at the same time? If he's currently in the job, and wants to remain in it, and nothing has materially changed, isn't he just wasting public money for his own PR?
July 7, 2026 at 1:43 PM
Jesus Christ, just resign. We get it. Being an MP is harder than you thought and you don't like being held to account. Bye-bye! 👋

"I'm just not connecting with the voice" is one of the most common reasons given for a rejection by agents and publishers. But what the heck is voice, and how do you nail it?

Let's get right to the heart of the matter: VOICE is all about POV.

Several days into this blazing heat in the UK (which now happens every year), I'm amazed by how many people still minimise it. People are dying. Our infrastructure can't cope. We're all sleep-deprived. Unless you have AC, there's no respite. It's a struggle to keep children and pets safe.

A7: I would tell them I'm sorry that it's not in their budget, and suggest other places they might find an editor who can help. I'd also remind myself that there are lots of clients who are happy to pay what I charge! #StetChat
Q7: After you send them a quote, a new-to-you author says they want to work with you but claims your hourly rate is too high for the service. What do you do? #StetChat
June 17, 2026 at 9:14 PM
A6: I have an AI policy on my home page that essentially says "I don't use gen AI in my work, and I won't work on text generated by AI." I'd hope that it would become clear as we begin to discuss their work or when I do a sample edit, and it would be an automatic "no" from me! #StetChat
Q6: You suspect that a potential client has used AI to “write” their book. The sample pages are eerily perfect, no typos, but also flat, with no voice. What do you do? #StetChat

A4: Even if the character's views are presented as wrong, I'd consider the harm the words might do vs. how necessary they really are to the story, and I'd flag to the author asking them to consider/suggesting a course of action.

If they clearly reflect the author's views, I'm out.
Q4: A white character in the story you’re editing spews multiple racial slurs in their dialogue. The author is an older white man. What do you do? #StetChat
