Late to #WildflowerHour as it failed to upload last night, the meadow is in full swing - Bee Orchids, Pyramidal Orchids, Common Spotted Orchids and Common Centaury

My first sighting of a Cockchafer. It hitched a ride on my trousers whilst I was picking raspberries.

As if by magic, the Common Spotted and Pyramidal Orchids have suddenly become visible. The Bath Asparagus (AKA Spiked Star of Bethlehem) has started to flower. A rather dour sky today!

Rufus and I walked out to the new @protect.earth Warleigh Nature Reserve yesterday and saw signs of the work that has started. It’s going to be an absolutely fantastic ecosystem. Can’t believe that Defra wanted the whole site planted with trees! What a wasted opportunity that would have been.

Don’t need any sympathy, but I do need a few quid in this crowdfunder so it’s all worth it. I finally get to work on the largest rewilding project in Bath, a place I’ve always called home, on a River that really needs a hand. I just want this to work. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n...
Warleigh Nature Reserve, Bath
Bath's largest rewilding project has begun: Warleigh Nature Reserve. Right on the River Avon, and already full of beavers.

Passing through the church yard at dusk on my way to my Tucking Mill toad patrol shift. Also first toad of the evening, which was also my first entirely solo find. Found 18 toads, 3 frogs and 2 newts in total and, hopefully got them safely onto the final leg of their mating migration.

And so it begins! Restart of hens laying. At least one bantam has only really just stopped - we were getting about two eggs a week well into January

#WildflowerHour I forgot to brush up on @naturelark.bsky.social’s handy guide to identifying Violets beforehand but I did remember that the spur and sepals are key to look at. I think these are Sweet Violet, Early Dog Violet and Common Dog Violet

#WildflowerHour Cherry Plum, reflexed sepals differentiate it from Blackthorn. This produces yellow fruit
March 23, 2025 at 8:05 PM
#WildflowerHour Ivy-leaved Speedwell, one of two subspecies. Think this is Veronica hederifolia sub species lucorum. Tiny pale lilac flowers
