Here's a closer look at some sort of character selection screen.
I sorta designed it on the fly but I would animate it so when selecting characters they kinda jump into place.
When everyone's selected they'd lunch at eachother and make a big "X" on the screen

Dude.. I just want this quality of animation in a sonic series. It doesn't even need to be this rendered..But geezz A 2D animation with some fluid fight scenes and a standard Sonic vs Eggman plot would be nice.

I completely agree. I've noticed there is a stigma behind how retro games are viewed in today's lens. The fact is lots of folks don't know what graphical and artistic progress looks like, in a world conditioned to have everything be their definition of "realism". Older games still impress me.
If you're under 30 your definition of "realism" is completely divorced from the environment these games were made in. Back then Zelda was being made by SGI on $55,000 computers. They were comparing screenshots like this to Jurassic Park. This legitimately blew my mind as a kid.

i think the difference and juxtaposition between malon and link here in terms of texture density, adherance to the original design, and just the amount of SHIT going on with links design points to the issue. Malon looks like she exists within her world, link feels like he found dark souls 3 clothes
