The original meaning of "blood is thicker than water" is that you'd have to be thick to drink blood if you could have water instead

We're not biologically adapted to drinking blood and it tastes horrible

Plus it congeals into nasty lumps if you don't drink it fast enough

It's been a blink of time since the Pylon People's Hum went silent. While we no longer see them marching across fields, under roads, they're still with us. Not only as remnants of a community living on canal boats, but as part of the county's living line of folklore. – Dr. M. Benn

RETVRN

The sets are about $200 worth of bubble wrap and vacuum cleaner parts, the Doctor is a condescending, tantrum-prone dick and the scripts are pure cosmic horror nightmare fuel

Also fuck the Potter Wand Screwdriver off, what the fuck is that lazy bullshit, everyone should be genuinely afraid

And in Aus and the UK (not sure where else) we don't only sell a copy to the library, we get paid for each borrow. But more importantly than all that, our books in libraries mean more readers might find our stuff who never would have before, and that's wonderful.
Also worth noting that like, three people requesting something at a library will get a library to buy it. And it doesn't take many holds to make it "we should buy more copies."

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft.
Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

The man who taught me welding, Gale, had polio. Built like Vulcan with a handgrip that would break your fingers, he could haul himself up the stairs with his hands as his legs were paralysed.

He's how I learned polio can reactivate and come back and kill you. Rest well, man, you were the best.
“On Thursday, Mr. Gorton said that “the success of the polio vaccine was a massive medical fraud” and that widespread vaccination was a “public health disaster.” He received a standing ovation…

Mr. Kennedy spoke next, linking arms with the group even as measles cases continue to rise”

Over 4 years since i wrote this appendix to my dissertation in which i explain the entire spiritual foundations and metaphysical commitments of the predominant contemporary "AI" movement in a somewhat dinner party skit.
Apparently another technogarch kleptocrat has said that he "wants to turn AI into a cosmic religion," to which I again say, "'*Wants* to'?"

Honestly I think it's a problem with us as a species. If you're enough of a relentless cunt most people will let you keep getting away with it

Nobody wants to deal with the consequences of being the person who hits you in the face with a shovel till you stop and everyone knows that's what it'd take
"we can't enforce the rules against this guy because it'd be a whole thing for us" is a big problem in the us in general

It was confirmed yesterday that the centre left coalition won the election in Sweden

As predicted, with the far right performing poorly, coverage has almost entirely vanished from international media
You may be relieved but spare a thought for so many editors in the mainstream media who were hoping to run hyping headlines about the far right winning in Sweden

As always when SD is hyped and ends up crashing, I expect Swedish politics will drop off the radar as it's no longer sexy enough
Sweden, Novus exit poll:

Seat projection national parliament

S-S&D: 101 (-6)
SD-ECR: 66 (-7)
M-EPP: 62 (-6)
C-RE: 32 (+8)
MP-G/EFA: 25 (+7)
V-LEFT: 24
KD-EPP: 21 (+2)
L-RE: 18 (+2)
